LEADER IN ME
The Vision of Kamalani Academy is to “To create a space where children become leaders, prepared for a Twenty-First Century we cannot even imagine.”
Central to accomplishing that Vision is the implementation of The Leader in Me at Kamalani.
-
Leader in Me is an evidence-based, comprehensive-school improvement model—developed in partnership with educators—that empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. It has been implemented in over 3,500 schools in more than 50 countries. There is currently 11 Leader in Me schools in Hawaii.
-
Many people equate leadership with a formal position of authority. But we believe anyone can be a leader by intentionally leading one’s own life (leading self) and working well with and encouraging the greatness in others—whether family, friends, neighbors, or colleagues (leading others).
-
Leader in Me character education is not simply taught once a week for an hour. With the Leader in Me, a culture of leadership is intentionally created and found in every activity at the school, every day. Teachers and staff model and teach the Leader in Me at every opportunity. Parents are invited to learn the model and to live the skills that their children are being taught.
-
Leader in Me students learn such valuable life skills as responsibility, accountability, goal setting, time prioritization, listening to understand others, and teamwork. Research shows improvements in student behavior, family engagement, attendance, creativity, teacher and staff satisfaction, and proficiency in reading and math.
